Police responded to a drive-by shooting in South Berkeley over the weekend, authorities said Sunday night. Saturday at approximately 11:45 p.m., the Berkeley Police Department dispatch center received “numerous 911 calls” reporting that shots had been fired in the 1500 block of Harmon Street, near Sacramento Street, said watch commander Lt. Dave Frankel. Callers reported shots fired and a car speeding away. Officers responded immediately, and arrived within minutes, Frankel said. Officers were not able to find any victims, though they did find one parked vehicle that had been struck by gunfire, as well as shell casings in the area. Police checked with local hospitals to find out if anyone with gunshot wounds sought treatment, but there were no reports. Residents in the area were unable to provide any information about involved parties, Frankel said. The only other shooting reported this year in Berkeley allegedly took place in the 2500 block of McGee Avenue. A gunshot victim who sought treatment at Alta Bates Hospital told police he had been shot on McGee, but police were not able to corroborate his story.
